Structural engineering

Structural engineering is a branch or basic area of civil engineering which deals with the planning, designing of structural members of the building such as columns, beams, slab, footings etc.
It is a technique of working out the dimensions of the structural members according to the load on the structure to support the dead and live loads.

Methods of the Design of Structure:

There are mainly three methods of the design of structure:

  • Working stress method.
  • Ultimate load theory.
  • Limit state method.

Applications of Structural Engineering:

·       Design of structural elements.
·       Failure analysis of collapsed structures.
·       Rehabilitation of old structures or defective structures.
·       Proof consultancy.
