What is Civil Engineering

 

§  Civil Engineering is the only branch of engineering which is closely associated with two of the three basic human needs of shelter and food.

§  The paths and roads we travel are civil engineering projects. The construction of the dams and power stations that provide the electricity we use every day, requires civil engineers inputs.

§  The water and sewage treatment plants that provide us with safe water supplies and safe disposal of domestic waste, require the expertise of civil engineers.

§  In fact most structures, large and small, require the help of a civil engineer whether in the designing, planning or managing of the project.


Scientific definition : Civil engineering is a professional engineering discipline that deals with the design, construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including public works such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, sewerages systems, pipelines, structural components of building and railways etc.
